Before You Grab That Red Bull…

The alarm goes off and the first thing you do is hit the snooze button.  I’m guilty of doing it. Those five extra minutes in bed may feel great at the time, but it will only make you feel more sleepy when you finally wake up.

If you’re the kind of person that always feels tired when you get up in the morning and even more so as the day goes on, then these energy boosting tips will have you feeling more energetic in no time!

Get A Good Night’s Sleep.

This is a no-brainer. The more you sleep, the more energy you’ll have -but don’t sleep too much or that will make you more tired in the morning. Make sure you are getting restful sleep. Some things that can stop you from getting a good night’s rest are stress, noise, eating too close to bedtime, and drinking caffeinated beverages late in the afternoon (caffeine can stay in your body for hours).

Don’t Skip Breakfast.

Don’t skip breakfast or any other meal for that matter. Your body relies on food for energy, so eating a good breakfast is a great way to make sure your body will be able to keep up with your busy schedule. I always make sure to eat a banana in the morning because they are a great source of energy. Bananas are packed with lots of complex carbohydrates that will keep you going for most of the day, and they’re cheap! Exercise & Stick to It.

It will give you a great energy boost.  Not only that, but you will also be ale to sleep better. It is really easy to make the time to exercise. If you can spend 30 minutes on Facebook, you can find time to exercise.  It doesn’t have to be an extensive workout, a 30 minute run or walk can do the trick. If you’re looking to get the most out of a quick workout, then this routine is for you.

Take a Power Nap. 

In the early afternoon (around 1-2pm), our bodies tend to start getting tired.  At this time you can choose to take a 15 minute walk to boost your energy.  Even drinking water can help you feel less tired because the body sometimes confuses dehydration with sleepiness.  When all else fails, its best to take a power nap.  Make sure it does not last more than 30 minutes, or else you will wake up more tired than you were before.  Set an alarm before you take your nap.

So to curb your dependency on coffee or energy drinks, make sure to:

  • Get a good, restful sleep at night
  • Eat a good breakfast in the morning and try these foods that will help boost your energy throughout the day
  • Try to fit in a workout to get some endorphins flowing in your system
  • Take a quick power nap when you start feeling tired in the afternoon
